Preschool and Kindergarten (3-5 Years)
School Readiness: Building Strong Foundations for Life
Starting preschool or kindergarten is such an exciting milestone, for your child and for you too. At Milestones, we know that being “school ready” means much more than recognising letters and numbers. It’s about nurturing confidence, curiosity and independence so your child is ready for every new challenge ahead.
Our School Readiness Program, designed for children aged 3-5 years, builds the essential knowledge, skills and self-belief needed for a smooth and positive transition to primary school. Led by qualified early childhood teachers and experienced educators, it’s the final stage of our Lifelong Learning Curriculum, one of Australia’s most comprehensive early education frameworks.
Learning That Inspires: Hands-On and Child-Led
Every child learns best when they’re curious and involved. Through project-based experiences that grow from children’s own interests, our preschoolers and kindergarteners explore real-world topics in meaningful, creative ways.
Whether they’re designing a community garden, exploring the weather, or building a rocket out of boxes, your child will:
-
Lead their own learning through curiosity and imagination
-
Strengthen problem-solving and communication skills
-
Develop teamwork, resilience and a sense of responsibility
-
Build confidence and a love of learning that lasts well beyond the classroom
Purposeful Use of Technology
Digital tools support learning at Milestones, but they never replace hands-on discovery.
We use:
-
Mathseeds - buildting numeracy through fun, interactive games
-
Reading Eggs - developing literacy and phonics in playful ways
-
Creative digital platforms - that encourage design and storytelling
Technology is balanced with play, movement and collaboration, helping children become confident, responsible digital learners.
Enrichment Programs That Go Further
We nurture the whole child through enrichment programs that support wellbeing, creativity and environmental awareness:
-
Positive Living Skills - building emotional regulation and resilience
-
Big Thinkers STEM - hands-on exploration of science, technology and engineering
-
Aussie Wildlife Champions - inspiring care and curiosity for the natural world
These programs make learning joyful, purposeful and deeply connected to children’s lives.
Building Confidence for a Positive Start to School
True school readiness means your child feels capable, included and confident in who they are.
By the end of our program, your child will be able to:
-
Manage belongings and routines independently
-
Communicate clearly and express emotions appropriately
-
Work cooperatively with others and share ideas
-
Follow instructions and participate in group learning
-
Approach new experiences with curiosity and courage
We also partner closely with families and local schools to support smooth transitions, including individualised school-readiness plans for each child.

Inquiry-based project learning
-
Big Thinkers STEM exploration
-
Nutritious lunch prepared onsite

-
Afternoon tea and outdoor adventures
This balance helps children develop school-ready habits while enjoying a fun, nurturing environment.
Understanding Preschool & Kindergarten Funding
Funding and program names differ across states, but at Milestones we make it simple. Wherever you live, your child can access a government-approved preschool or kindergarten program within our long day care hours, supported by qualified teachers, flexible sessions and our dedicated Family Support Team.
In Queensland:
- Kindergarten: Children can attend a Government-approved Kindergarten program in the year they turn 4 by June 30.
- Primary School: Children must start Prep (the first year of school) in the year they turn 5 by June 30.
Kindy programs are often delivered in child care settings like ours and follow the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline.
