Settling In

Balloons

We know that starting child care is a big step - for your child, and for you. Whether it’s their first time away from you, or simply a new environment, it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions during the transition.

At Milestones Early Learning, we’re here to support both children and families through this journey, with care, patience, and plenty of guidance.

Settling In with Confidence

Every child is different. Some settle in quickly, while others may take a little longer, and that’s perfectly okay. Our caring educators take the time to get to know your child, build trust, and help them feel safe and comfortable in their new environment.

If your child (or you!) experience any anxiety or distress, please speak with your Centre Manager or your child’s educator. We’re here to help every step of the way.

Tips to Help Your Child Feel Comfortable

Here are some simple ways to support your child’s transition into care:

Join a free Stay and Play session - Before your child’s official start date, you’re welcome to attend a free stay and play session. This is a great opportunity to explore the room, meet our educators, and help your child begin to feel at home.

Ease into the first few days - On your child’s first day, or first few days, you’re welcome to stay and play for a little while. Helping your child engage in an activity before you leave can make saying goodbye easier.

Bring something familiar - Comfort items like a favourite toy, blanket, dummy, or even a family photo can help your child feel safe and secure throughout the day.

Always say goodbye - We know it can be tempting to sneak away, but it’s important to always say goodbye. This builds trust and helps your child understand that you’ll always come back.

Keep your drop-off routine consistent - Children feel more confident when they know what to expect. Creating a regular routine for drop-off, like a special hug, a quick story, or a wave from the window, helps them adjust faster.

Build a connection with educators - Children are more likely to feel comfortable when they see their parents connecting with their educators. A warm handover each morning builds trust for everyone.

Call us anytime - You’re always welcome to call the centre throughout the day to check in. We’re happy to let you know how your child is settling in and share any moments that might bring you peace of mind.
