All our Affinity Education Group centres consider our families and communities an extension of our centres; therefore, our educators, teachers, managers, and support team actively engage and support our communities Australia-wide.
Milestones Early Learning Everton Park is just one of Affinity Education Group's centres that truly engage the local community and beyond.
Centre Director Tina Barbour wanted to do something that brought her community closer and decided to host a ‘Family Fun Day’. Tina said, “We created our event as a family fun day as many families moved from interstate this year. Many of them don’t know many people here, so I wanted to give them a chance to meet more families. “
With the overwhelming support from families wishing to attend, Tina and her Assistant Centre Director Cheryn Hurst decided to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave. The centre then opened the event to the local community, offering tour times outside office hours to ensure a great turnout.
The event attracted over 150 families and community members, with present and past families of Milestones Early Learning Everton Park attending.
Tina said, “After losing my Aunty in 2015 to blood cancer, it’s the best feeling to know that we raised over $4000 for the Leukemia Foundation and how much it will help families who are currently dealing with this illness.”
“The support from our families and the local community blows us away. They really got behind this fundraiser, whether it was through attending on the day, their child participating in the lead-up activities or the local businesses who donated items for raffles. We are so grateful to be a part of the amazing Everton Park community.
If you feel like you missed out, don’t worry. Tina and Cheryn are already organizing their next big fundraising event!
“Our next community activity is the Picabeen Christmas Hamper Drive. We collect donations for the Picabeen Community Centre, which then creates Christmas Hampers for struggling families in our community. That kicks off on the 1st of November, and we hope to create even more hampers this year.”
