There’s something special about an Australian summer - longer days, outdoor adventures, and plenty of time spent in the sunshine. As the warmer months approach, sun safety becomes more important than ever, especially for young children whose skin is extra sensitive.
At Milestones Early Learning, keeping children safe, healthy and comfortable is always a priority. That’s why we’re excited to be launching our Summer Sun Safety Pack, designed to support families as you head into the Christmas holidays and the sunny season ahead.
What’s Included in Our Summer Sun Safety Pack?
To help make sun safety simple and stress-free, every family will receive:
- SPF 50+ sunscreen bottles with handy carabiners - easy to clip onto nappy bags, backpacks or prams, and perfect for days out, holidays or trips to the park.
- A summer-themed children’s book - a fun, age-appropriate way to start conversations about the sun, outdoor play and staying protected.
- Our “Sun Safety Starts With Me” flyer - helpful resource that reinforces the sun-safe messages children are learning at Milestones.
These packs will arrive just in time for the Christmas and summer holidays, so you can head into the season feeling prepared and confident.

Why Sun Safety Matters So Much in Australia
Australia has one of the highest UV levels in the world, and children’s skin is particularly vulnerable to sun damage. Even on cloudy days, UV rays can still be strong enough to cause harm.
Building sun-safe habits early, like wearing hats, applying sunscreen and seeking shade, helps protect children now and sets them up with healthy habits for life.
Practical Sun Safety Tips for Families of Young Children
To make summer days easier (and calmer), here are a few simple tips we recommend:
Make sunscreen part of your routine
Apply sunscreen before leaving the house and reapply throughout the day, especially after swimming or sweating. Keeping a small bottle clipped to your bag makes this much easier.
Hats are non-negotiable
Choose a broad-brim or legionnaire-style hat that protects the face, neck and ears. Keeping a spare hat in the car can be a lifesaver.
Dress for the sun
Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing with good coverage helps protect little arms and legs while keeping children cool.
Plan outdoor play wisely
Aim for outdoor activities earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon, when UV levels are lower, and look for shaded areas whenever possible.
Talk about sun safety together
Reading books about sun safety and talking through why we wear hats and sunscreen helps children understand, and cooperate!
Supporting Sun Safety at Milestones
At Milestones Early Learning, sun safety is part of everyday practice. Our educators model sun-safe behaviours, ensure sunscreen is applied, encourage hat-wearing, and plan outdoor play thoughtfully during the warmer months.
By working together with families, we help children enjoy everything summer has to offer, safely and comfortably.
We hope our Summer Sun Safety Pack helps your family feel ready to embrace the sunny season ahead. Here’s to a summer filled with play, laughter and safe outdoor adventures
