On Wednesday 2 September, Australia marks Early Childhood Educators' Day(opens in new tab), a day set aside to say thank you to the people who show up for our children, every single day. This year's theme, The Future Starts With Us, is a reminder that the work happening in classrooms and playgrounds right now is shaping the adults our children will become. It's been a big year for early education in Australia, and today is about the people who've kept showing up for our community through all of it.
At Milestones, our educators aren't just part of your child's day. Over time, they become part of your family's story - the person who remembers your child's favourite dinosaur, who knows exactly how to settle them after a big weekend, who notices the small moments long before anyone else does.
More than qualifications
Every Milestones educator brings real training and expertise to their role. But what families often tell us they value most is something harder to put on a certificate: the relationships. The way an educator crouches down to really listen. The quiet observation that turns into exactly the right activity the next day. The steady, familiar face at drop-off that makes a nervous morning easier.
These are the moments that don't always make it into a newsletter, but they're the ones that matter most.
A community built over years, not days
Ask any Milestones family and they'll usually tell you the same thing: it doesn't feel like childcare, it feels like a second home. Educators who watched your eldest take their first steps are often still there when your youngest starts crawling. They remember which grandparent does pickup on Thursdays, which sibling is starting school this year, which family is going through a big move. That continuity is rarely something a family sets out looking for, it's something that grows over years of the same familiar faces showing up.
Tell us your story
This year, we want to hear from you. Has an educator at your Milestones centre made a difference to your family? You don't need to post it on social media for it to mean the world - let your centre team know directly, leave a note in centre, or share a message with them via Storypark.
Affinity Education's CEO, Glen Hurley, shared a message for Educators' Day this year here.
To every Milestones educator: thank you for the community you build, one day at a time.
If their work has ever inspired you to consider a career alongside them, you can explore opportunities on our Careers page.
And if you're looking for a centre near you, you can find one here.
The future really does start with you.
Early Childhood Educators' Day is a national initiative of the Australian Childcare Alliance, held on the first Wednesday of September each year.
